pre-registration is recommended.

Bill Fontenot's Bio

Bill Fontenot is an eloquent spokesman for the native plant movement in
Southwest Louisiana.  He began acquiring his knowledge of local flora
and fauna at the age of 6 from his father's hunting buddies around Point
Blue. He went on to combine this traditionally-acquired knowledge with a
formal education in Biology. At present, Bill is Naturalist at the
Acadiana Park Nature Station and the owner of a native plant nursery.
"...There comes a point in time when you come to understand how precious
our natural surroundings are, that they are not only beautiful but they
sustain our life, they are our life support system. You've got to know
something before you can love it, and when you begin to love it you
begin to care about its welfare. And when you begin to care about its
welfare, you begin to live your life with that in mind. In other words,
it goes from, 'What about me, what about my needs?' to, 'What about the
needs of everything around me?'"   Bill Fontenot
Bill has extensive experience in lecturing on Louisiana Native Plants
and the natural history of Louisiana. He has presented many "Routes to
Roots" workshops for LFR and was also an instructor at The Dewey Balfa
Cajun and Creole Heritage Week.  Student comments about him were that
"he is a walking encyclopedia!"
