Description
This workshop will feature noted Lafayette
music teacher, choir leader and historian
Mathilda Guidry Martin. She is currently Adjunct Professor
at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. After teaching vocal music
for over 30 years in the Lafayette public schools, Ms.
Martin retired and now serves
as founder, coordinator and teacher for Lafayette Consolidated
Government's "Cultural Enrichment Program." Throughout her career, her
choirs have performed and received awards across the country and in
Canada.
The workshop will combine the spiritual lyrics of gospel music, a
friendly atmosphere, and an opportunity for the budding singer, the
shower singer, or the singer whose best concert is in the car to join in
a sing-along as Ms. Martin shares the history of traditional gospel
music. Participants can expect to learn both words and melodies to some
of the oldest time-honored gospel songs.
